Newport News Redevelopment & Housing Authority is responsible for two HUD government housing assistance programs. Both our Public Housing program and our Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) program work off a waiting list. Newport News Redevelopment & Housing Authority has no emergency housing. Presently the waiting list for the Public Housing and the Housing Choice Voucher Programs are closed. In the future in order to be placed on either the Public Housing or Housing Choice Voucher list, you must make an appointment to apply and be found eligible for the program. When the list re-opens you may make a Public Housing appointment Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at 757-928-6060. Housing Choice Voucher appointments can only be made when the Housing Choice Voucher wait list is opened for appointment. When the Housing Choice Voucher wait list is opened, it will be advertised in the local section of the Daily Press. Those appointments are also made by calling 757-928-6060, Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4 pm. The TTY number is 247-7112. We are accepting applications for the Warwick SRO (Single Room Occupancy). Those appointments can be made by calling (757) 928-6060, Monday through Friday 9 am to 4 pm.

NNRHA's Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) & Public Housing Programs now have the capability to obtain Virginia State Police Background Checks in a matter of days as opposed to the previous five-to-six week waiting period. NNRHA was the first public housing authority in the State to purchase a software system necessary to interface with the Computerized Criminal History (CCH) files.
